Yokozuna crushes Dan Dubiel with stiff Banzai drop. On January 3, 1994 WWF champion Yokozuna took on Dan Dubiel in the opening match of Monday Night Raw. The match was a complete squash as expected, but no one saw the brutality coming before the end of the match. Yoko placed Dubiel in the corner for his signature Banzai drop. When performing this move throughout his career, the 600+ lbs. Yokozuna had stopped the drop of his massive weight by landing on his feet before his opponent. Unfortunately for Dubiel on this night, that was not the case. Yokozuna climbed the top rope, and literally came smashing down on top of Dubiel, not breaking his fall at all. Dubiels neck and chest were completely swallowed up by Yoko's huge body, and even after the referee made the 3-count, Yoko remained on top of Dubiel's chest for several seconds. You can see in the footage Dubiel begging the referee to get Yokozuna off his body, and when he finally lifted, Dubiel laid motionless for the rest of the time he was on camera. The extinct of Dubiel's injuries are unknown as is the reason why Yokozuna decided to stiff his drop on Dubiel that night, or rather it was just a slip of the feet. Yokozuna, or Rodney Lanai, passed away on October 22, 2000 due to a massive attack, most likely associated with his obesity. |
