Wrestlemania 2000 hardcore battle royal finish ruined.

At the WWE pay-per-view Wrestlemania 2000, that took place on April 2, 2000 at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, a battle royal for the hardcore title involving Crash Holly, Tazz, Viscera, Joey Abs, Rodney, Pete Gas, TAKA Michinoku, Funaki, Headbanger Thrasher, Headbanger Mosh, Faarooq and Bradshaw took place.

The rules of the match stated that a title could change hands during any pinfall or submission and the final winner would be the one who currently had the belt at the end of the 15 minute mark. The original plan called for Crash Holly to retain his title. The end was to see Hardcore Holly hit Crash with the jar of candy then go for the pin with 2 seconds left, therefore not getting the 3 count in time.

Unfortunately, Hardcore went for the pin too early which caused the ref to stop his count, even though neither the time had run out or Crash kicked out of the pin.

At this point, mass confusion surrounded the ring. Jim Ross started claiming Crash got his shoulder up, even though it was painfully obvious he didn't. Crash Holly, not realizing the ending didn't go as planned, grabbed the belt and started walking down the isle. Meanwhile, Howard Finkel announced Hardcore Holly (with hesitation) as the new champion as Hardcore looked as confused as everyone else. The referee, who never counted the 3, was forced to grab the belt from Crash and return it to Hardcore. Jerry Lawler asked why Hardcore wasn't the champion, all while J.R. still claiming Crash got the shoulder up on the instant replay.

The ending to the royal was one of the biggest train-wreck finishes in the company's history.
