Paul Roma Fired For Mocking Alex Wright The mid-90's was a roller coaster ride for the wrestling careers of "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Pretty" Paul Roma, a.k.a. the tag-team of Pretty Wonderful. The two men won the WCW World Tag Team titles on two occasions but after their second loss, things kind of went downhill for the duo. The team separated with Paul Orndorff kept on the undercards for nearly a full 2 years before eventually getting a push toward the WCW Television title. Paul Roma on the other hand was made into "enhancement talent", also referred to as a "jobber", a wrestler who helps build and make young (and commonly old) stars look good. This was a very bitter pill for Roma to swallow as he felt his talent was being wasted by WCW. So at WCW SuperBrawl V on February 19, 1995, Roma was told to put over his opponent, the undefeated Alex Wright. Roma did lose the match, but putting Wright over... not so much. Roma made two fatal errors. The first was making Wright look very weak throughout the match by not selling. An example being Wright held Roma in an arm bar for two minutes with Roma not showing the slightest ounce of pain on his face or in his voice. Wright also punched Roma several times with Roma not reacting to any of them. But the second error is what really pissed WCW off. Roma (the heel) got the loudest pop of the match by mocking Alex Wright's dance after press slamming him. Later in the match, Roma performed a massive elbow drop which got a louder ovation than any of Wright's offensive or defensive maneuvers. Bobby Heenan shouted over the headset a badly timed "It's over! His career is over!" He had no idea how right he was. Roma did sell a lot of Wright's spots throughout the rest of the match though and was pinned without a hitch. It wasn't enough to please WCW and Roma was fired directly after the match for making their new up and coming star look like a puss.
