New Jack assaults & breaks Chad Austin's leg with a chair. On March 30th, 1996, Stevie Richards & The Blue Meanie were scheduled to take on New Jack and Mustafa Saed: The Gangstas in a tag-team match. However, Stevie had suffered a cracked orbital bone in a match with Rob Van Dam the night before (ECW played off the injury as an attack by Tommy Dreamer, due to their feud at the time) and couldn't compete. With Richards out of the match, "Stone Cold" Chad Austin was brought in to take his place. Similar to the Mass Transit Incident, when Mass Transit replaced Axl Rotten in a tag-team match with D-Von Dudley and was then brutally attacked by New Jack, "Stone Cold" Chad Austin would suffer a similar fate for similar reasons. The Blue Meanie stated in an interview for his Myspace fans...
So on April 4, 1996, ECW aired the show and the carnage began. While New Jack did seem to pull most of his punches, his chair shots were a different story. For the majority of New Jack's attack, he was nailing Austin with chair shots left and right. When the chairs ran out, New Jack grabbed a fan's metal crutch and nailed it across Austin's back, bending it. While Austin tried scurrying away, New Jack grabbed yet another chair and slammed it down sideways across the top of Austin's neck. He finally collapsed to the ground, but New Jack was no where near finished. New Jack told IGN...
Just as he said, after Mustafa powerslammed Austin, New Jack came crashing down on Austin's skull with a sickening thud that echoed throughout the ECW Arena. The referee counts the 1-2-3, even though it is obviously clear Austin's left shoulder is sticking straight up. New Jack sat on Austin's head for a few seconds before jumping up and going for the same chair he used for the 187. New Jack assaulted Austin with a chair five times after the match, the last three swings breaking Chad Austin's leg. On the third swing, you can see New Jack hit Austin's knee with the steel frame of the chair. Austin tried moving out of the way protecting himself at the same time, to little avail. He clearly had problems standing up and was rolled out of the ring.
