Low-Ki accidentally knocks out Dan Maff.

On August 15, 2003 at ROH's Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies Low-Ki took on friend Dan Maff in the main event. During the match, Low-Ki connected with a move called the "Tidal Wave" a.k.a. a springboard enziguri. Low-Ki, who is known for being rather stiff, hit Dan's Temple and legit knocked him out. A few days after the show Low-Ki released the following statement:

"An unfortunate series of incidents happened at last Saturday Night's ROH show in Fairfield, Connecticut, a series of incidents for which I owe an apology. I was scheduled to work the last match of the night with my best friend Dan Maff.

We both like to work a strong style, especially for the demanding ROH audience. For many reasons, on Saturday Night, everyone in ROH was determined to put on a solid show. One of those reasons was because the crowd was less than expected, and we all wanted to make a great impression in this new market for ROH, so the next time we came back everyone in attendance would bring a friend to see this awesome promotion put on a great show. In the early stages of this, the last match of the night, I hit Dan Maff with an errant kick which knocked him for a loop. There was no way to continue the match. He was out. It was my fault. I have no excuse for what happened next.

Outside the ring, I hit ROH cameraman Doug Gentry. I was so upset about what had just happened and was not in full control of my actions. I was out of line, and without sounding corny, I broke the code. The code of ROH, the code of this industry, and the code of this very professional and proud locker room.

I offer no excuses for my actions, as they were inexcusable. I only offer an apology, and wish there was a way for me to express just how sorry I am for my unprofessional display. I hope in future I will have the opportunity to be a better representative of the company and of this business".

In an interview with D.O.I., Dan Maff conducted an interview and explained his side of the situation:

"First off, I have no problem with Low Ki at all. I read Ki's interview on DOI, and he said that I fell like a boxer when he is KO'd, and I got hurt not from his kick, but from my head hitting the mat. Well, a boxer falls that way cause he is KO'd. Knocked Out, and yes I hit my head on the mat, because like a boxer falling I was knocked out BEFORE I hit the mat. While my head indeed hit the mat, I was already out cold long before that even happened. The internet and the fans tend to blow every story out of proportion, and they did it with this , just like they do with everything else. Right now I feel ok, but even though I have returned to the ring, I regularly go for therapy on my neck".
