Toshiaki Kawada breaks his arm early in match.

On January 22, 1999, Mitsuharu Misawa was set to defend is All-Japan Triple Crown championship title against Toshiaki Kawada.

At nearly 10 minutes into the match, Kawada did a spinning forearm to the back of Misawa's head. If he misjudged his distance or used a stiff shot is not known, but the impact was so strong that it broke Kawada's arm and left Misawa holding the back of his head for several seconds.

Kawada favored his arm in pain for the remaining of the match while no visible damage could be seen. The two men would go on to have one of the best matches in All-Japan history with Kawada winning the match and becoming the new Triple Crown champion.

Unfortunately, due to the injury, Kawada had to forfeit the belt the next day and wouldn't return until 4 months later in May.
