Jake "The Snake" Roberts wrestles a match completely hammered.

Poor Jake Roberts. One of the greatest entertainers ever in the history of pro wrestling and the guy just can't seem to shake the demons of his personal life. Throughout Roberts infamous career, his problems with drugs and family have haunted him behind the curtain, and on many occasions, has bled out into the ring.

On October 10, 1999, once such incident occurred. It was during the first-ever (and last ever) Heroes of Wrestling pay-per-view in Biloxi, Mississippi.. The ppv was centered around big wrestling stars of the 80's. If the ppv could attain at least 40,000 ppv buys, it was to be scheduled for a 4 ppv-a-year deal. Unfortunately, Roberts was one of the main reasons why we never saw a Heroes of Wrestling ppv again.

Earlier that day in his hotel room, Roberts had received a phone call from his daughter. Details of the phone conversation are vague but what is clear is that it sent Roberts into a downward spiral. He resorted back to his old ways of abusively drinking to deal with his personal problems. He showed up at the building staggering, obviously already drunk.

Reports claim that his drinking continued when he arrived to the Casino for his match. When it was time for his pre-match interview before taking on Jim Neidhart, Roberts had to actually lean on the guy holding the microphone in order to stand.

After the interview, Jake The Snake staggered his way to the ring with his trademark snake-in-a-bag Damien. Roberts had trouble getting the bag on the apron, and even more trouble tying it shut so the snake couldn't escape. More on that later.

After not figuring out how to tie a knot, Roberts began walking backwards up the ramp. After almost a minute of the fans, announcers, and Jim Neidhart being completely confused where he went, Robert's returned without his shirt and began walking around the ring greeting fans.

In a rather funny moment, Jake Roberts stopped dead in his tracks when he saw with his beer-goggle vision a hottie standing in the front row. Roberts approached the woman and grabbed her hands which obviously made the woman uncomfortable, as she was a little hesitant. When she finally loosened up, Roberts rubbed the hottie's hand all over his sagging old body. I don't think it got over with the fans as much as Roberts thought it would.

When Roberts finally entered the ring, that's when the real problems began. Damien had poked his head out of the bag causing a stir among the audience that the snake was going to escape. Roberts grabbed the snake to "intimidate" Jim Neidhart, but took it one step further. He put the head of the snake between his legs and began stroking it, gesturing a jerking-off motion to Anvil and several members of the audience, standing very proudly while he did it.

The suits in the back freaked-out and began cutting cameras back and forth between Roberts and the audience trying NOT to catch him...stroking his snake. When it became obvious that Roberts was no where near in condition to wrestle the match, Heroes of Wrestling sent out Yokozuna and King Kong Bundy and created a impromptu tag-team match. At one point even, Jake the Snake fell asleep on the floor.

The entire pay-per-view was considered a disaster and by many fans as the worst wrestling pay-per-view of all time. Maybe Roberts did us all a favor after all.
