Honkey Tonk Man nearly kills Jake "The Snake" Roberts. On February 21, 1987 on an episode of WWE Superstars, Jake "The Snake" Roberts was conducting one his infamous Snake Pit segments, a spot on the show where he would interview any variety of wrestling stars on the roster, similar to Piper's Pit. His guests on the show for this particular accident was The Honky Tonk Man with Jimmy Hart A spot was planned that during the interview, Honkey Tonk Man would sneak attack a guitar shot on Jake the Snake, setting up a fued for Wrestlemania. The guitar was suppose to be a thin, light-wood, breakable guitar, universal in wrestling. Instead, the prop person for The Snake Pit segment went out and bought a 2 inch-thick guitar coated in fiber glass. The end result was Honky Tonk Man delivering a massive blow directly to Robert's head, rupturing 2 discs in his neck, and Robert's picking out fiber glass splinters out of his body for the next 2 weeks. The accident put Jake the Snake on pain killers and only fueled his well-known drug addiction.
