Terry Funk & Cactus Jack suffer huge embarrassment in Exploding Ring Deathmatch.

In 1995, before both men were well-known for enduring very hardcore, ultra violent matches, Terry Funk & Cactus Jack were in the finals of the IWA King of the Deathmatch tournament held in Kawasaki, Japan.

After each man went through 2 previous death matches, their final match would prove the toughest as it was a C4 landmine, barbed-wire, exploding ring deathmatch. The rules of the match were simple. Each man had a certain time-limit to pin their opponent and if the match didn't end in time, the ring would explode.

Eventually it was that time and the countdown began. Cactus Jack nailed his DDT on Funk and exited the ring as the announcer began to count to one. Funk (kayfabe) tried to escape and collapsed as the ring was set to explode.

What was suppose to be a huge explosion looked more like 6 bottle rockets going off. The crowd knew instantly the explosion was a dud and began to "boo" heavily as Funk sat up in the ring with a look of almost confusion and embarrassment.

Cactus Jack quickly re-entered the ring and the match continued despite the lack of explosion and crowd disappointment and went off as a very memorial match.
