Lori Fullington Breaks Missy Hyatt's Elbow With Singapore Cane

In Missy Hyatt's book, 'Missy Hyatt: First Lady of Wrestling', she devotes a chapter of her time in ECW and one incident in particular that occured on August 20, 1996 in Staten Island...

"The worst thing that happened to me in ECW was when Lori Fullington broke my elbow - yeah, Sandman's wife, the same wacko bitch who almost knocked my head off with her boot way back in the first chapter. You'd think, after that, she'd have learned her lesson. You know, about being a professional, about keeping her emotions under control. But not Lori. She was jealous, and she didn't want Sandman to work with me anymore, and she finally got to him; Sandman caved in. He told Paul E. he wanted to stop working with me. I mean, I was pissed because we had a good gimmick going. But what the hell? If Sandman was getting heat for working with me, then fine, we'd end it."
"I mean, it was just an angle. I knew that. Sandman knew that. Even Lori knew it was just an angle. But she's listening to the interview backstage, the start of the blow off, and suddenly, in her mind, it's like I'm telling people she screwed around on Sandman. It's like I'm calling her kids bastards.
I mean, give me a break!
Actually, a couple of weeks later, that's what she did.
We were doing a show in Staten Island; Lori was back at ringside with Raven, and I was with Sandman. It had been a month since she clobbered me with her boot and knocked off my blonde fall. So of course as soon as the four of us - she and Raven, me and Sandman - are in the ring together, Lori and I lunge for one another and start fighting, rolling around, grabbing hair. Then Raven and Sandman pull us apart, but we're still lunging at one another, trying to break free. . . I mean, so far, so good.
      By the book.
Now what's suppose to happen next is Lori is to break free and get hold of Sandman's Singapore cane - which he conveniently dropped when he and Raven were pulling us apart. And then she's suppose to run up behind me and crack me across the back with it. So I wriggle free from Sandman, and I'm in position, with my back to her, and I can feel her running up behind me.
I don't know what it was - maybe a kind of sixth sense you develop when you've been in the ring long enough. The moment just felt wrong. I start to peak over my shoulder, and right as I'm peeking, I can hear the wooosh of the cane. The trouble is, it's coming straight at the side of my head. For an instant, I can see it. It's a blur, eye level. Instinctively, I start to duck and put up my right arm.
The cane hits me flush in the elbow. Right away, I knew something was really wrong because my entire right arm went limp. I mean, the crazy bitch caned me.
     For real.
I manage to roll out under the bottom rope, clutching my elbow. I was so pissed off. I mean, I went crazy. The three of them were still standing in the ring, staring down at me, wondering what to do next, and I was screaming back at them, "Learn how to work, you stupid jabronees!"
Meanwhile, my knees are getting wobbly. As I started walking up the aisle, back to the dressing room, I remember it was like time was slowing down. I was nauseous from the throbbing in my elbow, and I was listening to the fans on the aisle yelling at me to get back in the ring and fight, and I remember saying to myself, "This is freaking work!" I mean, I'd never walked out on a match before. But it was like in the Lethal Weapon movies, where Danny Glover says, "I'm getting to old for this shit." For the first time, right then, as I was staggering up that aisle in Staten Island, I realized wrestling had become a job.
And it was a job, suddenly, I didn't want to have."
