Jim Cornette tears his knee from a 24 ft scaffold fall. On November 27, 1986 at NWA: Night of the Skywalkers, The Midnight Express, accompanied by Jim Cornette and "Big" Bubba Rogers, were set to take on The Road Warriors in a scaffold match. The scaffold match was the first tryout of several scaffold matches NWA had planned to tour with and not knowing how high the scaffold should be, the officials raised it to 24 ft. high. A spot was planned with Jim Cornette for the Road Warriors to chase him up the scaffold and then Cornette was to cowardly climb to the bottom of the scaffold and fall into the waiting arms of Bubba Rogers. Everything went according to plan until it was time for Cornette to take the fall. Cornette hung for a few seconds above the ring and let go, crashing to the ring and popping his knee out of socket. Cornette had tore several ligaments and muscles surrounding the knee as well. In addition, when he hit, he smacked the back of his head against Bubba Rogers knee canceling out one pain with another for just a few seconds. Cornette laid in pain and could barely get a breathe out to tell Bubba he was legitimately hurt and needed to be carried. Eventually he got the words out and Bubba carried him off and to the back. With Cornette's injury, Bobby Eaton had also twisted his ankle when it was his turn to fall. Cornette told NWA officials that the tower should most definitely be lowered or else somebody was most likely going to die. |
