Eric Bischoff loses his steel plate. On December 28th at WCW's Starrcade 97, Eric Bischoff (representing nWo) w/ Scott Hall took on Larry Zbyszko (representing WCW) with Bret Hart as the special guest referee. The winner of this match would determine whether WCW or the nWo would have complete control over Monday Nitro. Towards the end of the match, when Zbyszko had the advantage by placing Eric in a tree-of-woe, Scott Hall climbed the apron and stuffed a steel plate into Eric Bischoff's foot pad. What happened next was probably one of the few times where a botched spot actually made the proceedings more believable and more accurate to what what was suppose to happen. When Bischoff kicked Zbyszko in the head with the loaded foot-pad, the steel plate flew out and sailed into the audience just before making impact. Hart, who wasn't suppose to see the steel plate to begin with, even turned his head to look into the direction of where the plate had landed in the audience. In any normal event, this would've given the referee just cause for an immediate disqualification and given Hart an actual reason to turn on the nWo and disqualify Eric. Despite the steel pad error, the finish ended up going as planned with Hart turning on the nWo and declaring Zybszko the winner. |
