Chris Benoit breaks Sabu's neck.. On November 5, 1994, Chris Benoit was set to face Sabu in match for Extreme Warfare Vol 1. Due to a communication problem in which Chris Benoit was attempting a flap jack, a move in which the person on the receiving end lands pancake, face first on the mat. Instead, Sabu thought Chris Benoit was attempting a very common back body drop. The result was Sabu landing on top of his head and breaking his neck. Amazingly, Sabu started wrestling, he says, less than 2 weeks after the injury in Japan and returning to the United States a month later, wrestling in a neck brace. The incident gave Benoit the "Crippler" nickname by Paul Heyman. Chris Benoit stated in his WWE DVD that Heyman seemed more excited about the nickname than concerned for Sabu's injury.
